Review by Mark Walsh for Permatex 81773 Rust Treatment (Body Filler Compatible), 16 fl oz Bottle
Rating:
We have a large wrought iron wine cage/furniture that I rescued from a friend’s yard, and which spent a year outside at our house before I decided to clean it up and bring it in. As a result, it was pretty rusty. I took a wire brush to it, scrubbing away all loose rust, then hit it with a pressure washer and let it dry. I then applied this magic Permatex 81773 Rust Treatment. The results were amazing: the rust turned into a deep black shell, effectively turning the old rusty furniture into the nice deep black we wanted. We saw no need for further painting; moved it into the house where it now looks great holding our wine, glasses and plates.
I’m not particularly handy and had not worked much with wrought iron (which is probably why it sat in the yard for so long getting rustier). A little Internet searching turned me on to using a “rust converter”. Finding several brands on Amazon, this one was most cost effective. And having now used it for one restoration project, it worked exactly as promised.
Check out Winchester 1300 Defenders & other guns for sale online through http://www.gunbroker.com. They’re the ebay of guns. Awesome site. Gun Juice anti rust treatment lubricant: http://www.microlon.com My new Homebrewing Website: simplehomebrewing.com Easy Beer Video Course tinyurl.com I didn’t talk about this in the video, but I’ve been looking into getting my FFL license recently so I can buy weapons wholesale and easily ship weapons to friends and family and do minor work on weapons. There is a lot of info online on how to do this stuff but it’s NOT user friendly. I ended up picking up this special FFL Kit that walks you through the process. If you’ve ever thought about getting your FFL you should check into it: tinyurl.com
Did you ever check out the other site where it helps you get your type 1 FFL?
I can’t decide between the two.

nice!!!! I love what you did with this, by the way I have the 1300 deer slug but am going to trick it out like yours soon!!
I have won many IPSC shotgun competitions with my 1300. Great guns. I had a remington, but it broke too many times. IPSC can be hard on guns!
Cheers!
My 1300 came with a fully extended magazine tube. The end cap is just below the end of the barrel. If I added the magazine extension, it would protrude past the end of my barrel and look goofy, unless I could find a good muzzle break or something. I mounted a maglight with a remote switch to the side of my barrel with a universal scope mount that worked very well.
Try a few Aguila mini slugs. They load VERY well in my 1300 and they have very little recoil. The wife might like them. They exit at 1250 fps and are fairly acurate to 35 yards.
The microlon webite has a link at the top of the page to lab results done around 1972 I think. This gun juice stuff has been around for 30 or 40 years.
I just bought some yesterday at a gun show because I’ve heard nothing but good things about it for years, but I am a skeptic by nature so I finally decided to just test it myself.
They make a sort of paste that you are supposed to be able to use on internal parts like trigger linkages, etc. that you use instead of the liquid, no heat needed.
do u ever shoot ur weapon.
My 1300 defender has 8 shot stock capacity, before adding the extension.
the only difference there is between the different 1300 models is the barrel lentgh. the defender is a shot barrel and the ranger is a long barrel, my 1300 is depending on what barrel i got on either a ranger or a defender. hope that helped sumwhat. so basicly its the barrels that got different names, crystalhunter1989, check ur barrel there should read what it is, if its a longer barrel its probably the ranger, short = defender.
That was a good idea with the flashlight mount!! Good Job!
Ah, well mine was made at the New Haven factory in Connecticut. I think it’s a Black Shadow but I don’t know for certain because it doesn’t have anything stamped on the gun other than Winchester 1300.
Defenders will have defender stamped in the barrel and has an 18 inch mag tube from the factory. Also the best one to have will be the older model when winchester was owned by Olin corp. before they sold out to F & N

those are fragmentable rounds. If you google Box o Truth you’ll find some interesting rest results on those. I don’t trust fragmentation rounds to get the job done. They may be safer in over-penetration situations, but the results i’ve seen show they don’t penetrate nearly well enough. That is NEVER a problem I EVER want to have, personally
thire is some sluges that are made for home defence and they are made to brake up and reduse the chance of over penitration
How long is it’s barrel because I have a Winchester 1300 ( I think its a ranger ) and the barrel is like 28 inches. And I’m looking to get a different barrel or new gun.
i have no idea how to tell the defender or not. I personally wanted the pistol grip, but the wife can’t shoot it easily with just the pistol so having an option for a folding stock seemed logical for me.
I have a Winchester 1300, but I don’t know if it is a Defender or not. How can I tell? Also, what advantage does the folding stock have over a regular one other than size reduction? If you’ve already cut off a few inches on the barrel, isn’t that enough?
You’re a gun nut that makes his own wine and smokes cigars. We must have bee separated at birth.
ahhh, awesome idea man.
With regards to the heat shield.
It looks like the rear sight on the shield might interfere with the folding stock.
A turn or two of black electrical tape at the contact points is a cheap way to protect your barrel.
I was able to find a polymer heat shield with no sights (I think it was made by Chaote) at Midway. I am not sure if they make one to fit the defender. I was very happy with mine.
A gun mounted shell holder is far superior to a sling mounted one. Shells on the sling are alright if you want some extra ammo while duck hunting. In a defense situation you are not going to want to play “catch the swinging sling” game. It is a lot easier to grab shells from a gun mounted caddy and it is a shorter distance to the loading port as well.
As a side note – I was assured by several mechanical engineers that springs do not lose tension under steady load.
Thanks for making this a video response to my video man.
Thanks for sharing
Ok good, I am glad to see this working out well for you.
LOL, ya, i know. I thought about breaking it into a gun / homebrewing video, but I recorded it all as one big segment and it looked awkward when I broke it up.

Review by Todd W. Hiller for Permatex 81849 Rust Treatment (Body Filler Compatible) – 16 oz aerosol can, 10.25 net weight

Permatex Rust Treatment is a cost effective alternative to new fenders, tailgates, hoods and nearly any rusted metal surface. With simple spray on application, Permatex stops rust on contact with a bubbling reaction similar to “Alka Seltzer” or Peroxide on an open cut that you can both see and hear. Besides the “proof being in the pudding” so to speak, Permatex dries (after about 3 coats) to a black finish that can be painted over with replacement or touch up paint, or a full vehicle or item paint job. I have used it on the fenders of my truck as well as a wood stove cover plate to convert a fireplace to take a 6″ stove pipe. While not reccommended for high-heat, permatex performs to a very pleasing standard. It stops rust for less than half the cost of other alternatives and comes in a simple spray can which leaves no messy paint brushes or rags behind after the job is finished.

The product lived up to its expectation, within a day. The rust on my car turned in to a black stable compound. I haven’t top coated on it, but the surface can be painted. I am quite happy that this one worked and stopped that rusty rust.
