    What is Rust Stains?

Rust is a red orange colored chemicals which will be produced when corrosion occur. The iron will corrode in presence of water and oxygen. When the metal gets rusted the rust will come out from the surface thus making the corrosion easier. When this rust rub off the fabrics then it form rust stains. If it is not removed immediately then it can be really painful for removing the stains.

    Rust Stain Removal for Clothing

For rust treatment in your clothes firstly, you need to follow the instruction of the fabric care placed in the inner part of the cloth. Based on the instruction you have to work on it. If you are still thinking how to handle the cloth then it’s always better that you bring the cloth to the laundry. You can also do another thing: Follow the following process in some unnoticeable area to test for damage or color fading.

Picking the Right Rust Remover For Effective Rust Stain Removal

Why are most of the cleaning products advertisements feature rust stains on clothes, cement and cars? It is in fact obvious that rust stains are very hard to get rid of. When a metal is exposed to air and/or water, it is likely to undergo a chemical reaction in which it is rendered weak and structurally-compromised as in the case of a the Mianus River Bridge where rust caused its collapse.

Rust manifests itself as a reddish brown discoloration that is really hard to remove on any surface that it contacts with. Choosing the right and ideal rust remover is very important in order to efficiently remove these nuisances.

The following should be the ideal characteristics of an ideal rust remover:

1.Immediate Efficacy. The rust remover should take effect immediately. This is important because this is in the first place what the products were made for. Well, how can you tell if rust remover is taking effect? For one, once sprayed or applied it should turn the stain into loose salts that can be easily washed away by water. The reaction is all chemical of course and need not be discussed in here.

    2. Non-Toxic. Since the rust remover is to be used by us, humans, it should not contain any harmful chemicals that pose any risks. Normally, chemicals used in the production of these rust removal products are cream of tartar, baking soda, hydrogen peroxide, which is all safe if used in moderate amounts. There are, however, a lot of rust removers which contain little or even none of these above-mentioned chemicals. Most of these commercially available natural cleaning products are safe not only for us but also for plants. Thus they are called organic rust removers!

    3. Residual Effect. Just like antimicrobial agents, rust removers should have some kind of a residual effect that sort of protects the treated metal from further rust formation. This effect should give the metal surface additional protection from corrosion reaction products. This process is just like what they do with stainless steels, making metal surfaces “rust-proof”. Therefore it should not contain phosphoric acid, which is a known corrosive agent. In other words, it employs the formation of rust instead of preventing it. Well, this is obviously not good, right?

    4. Broad Spectrum. The rust remover should be suitable to a variety of products. It should not cause deteriorating effects to certain materials while performing its function. The result should always be towards the positive side and that is rust removal! Certain rust removal products cannot be used on certain surfaces because of certain factors that can be associated with the nature of the material itself.

    5. Safe to use for the material. It should not cause further damage to the surface being cleaned. The product should not affect the material’s appearance and would be much better if it can contribute to the material’s aesthetics.

    6. And Finally… It should be economical so that it can be availed by people from all walks of life. Money should not be a factor in choosing the right ONE. If we think about it, it is kind of hard to find the right rust remover. But the truth is there really are products which possess almost all of these characteristics. And take note, an ideal rust remover need not be expensive!

    Rust Stain Removal

Problem never comes alone. When rusting begins, not only the metal becomes weak but a lot of secondary problems go prominent. One such problem is rust stain.

Rusted iron is brittle, fragile and looks like reddish-brown dust particles. These particles are very loosely attached with main metal figure and easily slide down to any adjacent surface. Anything that comes into contact with rusted metal gets stained easily.

Hence, when rusting begins, not the iron products corrode only, but a bunch of items gets damaged. This is not at all desired and one should take steps to get out of this mess. Waterproof coating, rust-proofing materials are commonly used to protect metals from rusting.

Mechanical abrasion using sandpaper, wired brush and abrasives can help remove rust from metal. But what about those items that got damaged with rust stain?

Here in this article we would discuss about the things very much susceptible to rust stain and then we would see how to protect them from the clutches of rust!

    Clothes, Garments:

Rust stain on clothes and garments appear to be very sticky. These tough stains are difficult to remove. If you wash the stained cloths with general detergent powders, you would have a tough time; chances are that you won’t be able to remove the stain.

Wet clothes when come into contact with rusted metals, catch rust stain easily. If the internal parts of washing machine, iron, hangers and clips or the metal rack have rust, chances are your clothes will get spoiled.

One easy solution is using rust-proofing coat on all metal tools. To remove rust stain, you can use any rust stain remover. Follow the instructions that come with the solution. Organic stain removers do not do any harm to the substance and remove stain efficiently.

    Upholstery:

Are you using wrought iron furniture at home? Keep checking the upholstery frequently. If the furniture begins to rust, the upholstery fabric or leather easily catches rust stain.

And it is very difficult to clean upholstery fabric as you cannot remove it from the chair or sofa set for washing. The only option left in your hand is to replace it! Costly.

However, spray based rust stain remover can be an easy solution here. Just spray the solution or dab it on the stained area and wait for some time. Patches are going to vanish soon.

    Carpet:

Carpet is very much likely to get moistened. Being spread all over the floor it can get damped any time and the moisture is locked inside.

The legs of iron chair and the base of iron furniture are in constant contact with the carpet. The moisture content of the carpet would result in rusting of the metal and the carpet itself would get stained.

    Curtains:

Rust often attacks window sidings, awnings, metal frames of windows and doors or the metal structure of retractable awning or canopy. As a result curtains catch rust stain.

Rust on curtain looks ugly. Unfortunately it can happen with your favorite set of curtains too. It is better to stay prepared with organic rust removers and whenever you see traces of rust stain on curtains, just apply the solution right on the spot.
